About the St. Croix Railroad

The St. Croix Railroad (SCRR) was founded in 1971 and is incorporated as a non-profit organization by the State of Minnesota. The organization is financed by member dues and donations, as well as by public donations. Donations may be tax deductible as determined by the IRS under section 501(c)(3)

Locomotives operated at the SCRR use varied sources of power, including steam (fired with coal, propane and oil,) electricity, diesel and gasoline. Facilities for servicing equipment are located on the property and include coal, water, electricity and compressed air provided to members and guests operating their trains.

The membership numbers around 300 men and women coming from all walks of life, ranging in age from 8 to 80. Most of the members live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area and Wisconsin, however the membership ranges throughout the United States including Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Pennsylvania, California and outside the USA - Manitoba, Canada and beyond.

Members are expected, wherever possible, to attend some work days through the year to help maintain the grounds and facilities.

The corporation is managed by a board of directors which includes a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and some other number of members, typically numbering 12 in total. The board is elected by the membership at a business meeting, held during the Fall Meet in September each year.
